Pharmacy Manager Featured Employee

This month’s feature pharmacist is Jim Olander, pharmacy manager of Thrifty White Pharmacy #749 in Walker, MN.

Jim was born in Park Rapids, MN and grew up in the Nevis area, just a short distance away. He started college in Bemidji and subsequently graduated from the NDSU College of Pharmacy in Fargo in 1979 (Go Bison!). Jim interned for one summer at White Drug in Jamestown, ND and after that internship was offered a job with White Drug in Minot, ND. He moved to Minot in 1979 thinking he would only spend a year or two there and then return to Minnesota.

Jim worked for White Drug for six years in Minot before starting work at Osco Drug. He worked for Osco for another 14 years and in 1999 moved back to Minnesota to work for an independent pharmacy owner who owned two stores in Walker. Those two stores in Walker were then acquired by Thrifty White in 2003 and the “circle was completed.” Jim ended up working where he had begun his career, at Thrifty White!

Our Walker store is a small but busy store located next to the Innovis Clinic. In addition to a good walk-in business Jim and his staff take care of one long term care facility and 10 small group homes and assisted living facilities.

Jim is married and has two children. His wife Annie is employed by First National Bank in Walker. Their oldest daughter Erin was just recently married and works as a registered nurse in Bemidji. Their son Alec will finish college during the fall/winter semester of 2010, so Jim and Annie will soon become empty nesters!  Jim and Annie enjoy living in the Walker area. They do a lot of biking on the local trails and spend a lot of time exploring Leech Lake (Jim is an avid fisherman). They have also become big fans of the Minnesota Twins and travel south to the Twin Cities whenever possible to take in a Twins game.

Jim, we are glad you came full circle and are back with Thrifty White. Having known you since 1983 it is easy to recognize the quality individual you are and we are fortunate to have you as one of our ESOP employees. Thank you for your contribution to our company!  Gary B., Executive Vice President of Pharmacy, Thrifty White Pharmacy
